Erwin Olaf
Born in 1959 in Hilversum, Netherlands, Erwin Olaf studied journalism at the University of Utrecht but ultimately found his niche as a photographer. His highly stylized tableaux evoke dramatic and complex narratives, and his subject matter often explores taboos and societal issues.
His aesthetically pleasing works have the sophistication of fine art and the drama of cinematic scenes. Olaf’s meticulous staging of his sets allows him to capture the nuances of human emotions, from embarrassment and shame to despair and denial.

John K. Chua
John Chua was a man who loved flying, cared for children, solved seemingly impossible challenges, and built one of the most successful photography studios in the Philippines. These diverse passions fueled each other and made him one of the best in his field.
He also took on many advocacies, which ranged from the preservation of Banaue’s rice terraces to empowering visually impaired children with photography lessons. His legacy is a testament to his dedication and persistence.
His bird’s-eye shot of the ravaged landscape in Guiuan after Supertyphoon Yolanda made landfall in 2013 also captured the strength and perseverance of the survivors.
Even as he battled colon cancer, Chua was able to continue with his work. His last big project was a photo exhibit about Banaue in the National Museum that showcased the Igorot people and their heritage. He died on January 6, 2018, just a few weeks short of his 70th birthday. He was survived by his wife Harvey, daughters Ching and Kathy, and son-in-law Grimme.
